What is the Matthew Bible?
What’s Behind the Name?
This Bible was the combined work of William Tyndale, and John Rogers with Miles Coverdale contributing. It was published under the pseudonym ‘Thomas Matthew’ because the people had already killed Brother Tyndale and rejected the truth of God’s word. They eventually killed Brother John Rogers as well. Although officially known as the Matthew Bible, it is sometimes called by other names such as Matthew’s Bible, Tyndale’s Bible, or the Matthews Bible. Pastor Nathan Harding, the editor of the Matthew Bible, Modern Spelling Edition, has discovered that the Greek words translated into English as Thomas Matthew were undoubtedly written to quietly convey that the original works of Tyndale’s New Testament Bible, — that were earlier banned and burned– had been republished as “The twin gift from God to that which had originally been printed.” The only one in the world that is Modern Spelling™ and normal font
Is It Like the KJV?
The Matthew Bible is the foundation of the King James Version that is so well known in the United States – yet many are not aware of this fact. The Matthew Bible is the true, accurate, and God-inspired English Bible, prior to the Church of England modifying it for political reasons (through its Governor, King James I) from 1568 through 1611. The King James version that is used today is the updated 1769 Oxford Standard edition and contains about 79% of The Matthew Bible in the New Testament but much less in the Old (75%). About 26% of the 1611 & 1769 versions are based on the Geneva Bible and other politically driven changes. The rest is that of William Tyndale (a pastor and gifted scholar who spoke Greek and Hebrew among other languages). Any other Bible may be based even less on the original writings.
Who Wrote It?
John Rogers, also a pastor, compiled all of Tyndale’s most up-to-date translations in one volume (including the entire New Testament, and nine books of the Old Testament). In the areas that were lacking translation, John Rogers provided the translations, overseeing the work contributed by Coverdale, who lacked the original language knowledge of John Rogers and Tyndale. Other translations of the Matthew Bible may exist. Still, these often fall either into the language trap of Coverdale – by relying on the Latin translations for updating – or they are facsimiles of archaic font and spelling. To the true connoisseur of spirit breathed Scripture, The Matthew Bible: Modern Spelling edition is the only one that will satisfy. The purest English Bible is the Thomas Matthew Bible; until now, unavailable in modern spelling, modern font, and in print.
Why Is It Not Popular?
King Henry VIII agreed that a new Bible could be introduced to solve a debate among the Puritans and the Church of England: Even encouraging people to purchase the Bible. William Tyndale made a significant effort not to use the word church or other such words that had come to represent the Roman Catholic Church and the Church in England; however, King James I later demanded that these types of words be used in his new translation, thus obscuring the unity of believers in the one true church, the body of Christ. Subsequently, he also insisted that the Bishops Bible be the basis of the text for what we now know as the KJV Authorized Holy Bible. The Bishop’s Bible removed certain wording that “Was not edifying for public reading,” which meant anything that was contrary to the practices of the Church of England c.1600.
Why the Matthew Bible?
Both Tyndale and Rogers were killed at the orders of “the church” during the reigns of King Henry VIII and Queen Mary I. These men gave their lives to make sure people could read the precious words of life in their native English language. Today, the Matthew Bible is still hidden from people and has not been made available in modern American English and Spelling – until now.
Although the KJV has served us well (and will continue), there is a pure and unaltered truth that can only be found in the Bible that was written in blood – in the lives of those who fought to write, live, and preserve God’s precious words – now available for today’s readers through The Matthew Bible: Modern Spelling™ Edition © and soon, The Matthew Bible: Modern Word Edition ©.
